So recently, a certain leader after being charged with corruption and generally any crimes pointing to abuse of office that you are thinking of , made a public statement insinuating that it was an ill attempt by simple minority to oust women leaders, out of office.

GHAI ! My friend Simon and I were devastated. And we made resolve to deconstruct the whole concept of gender equality because why not ?

Simon is brilliant, he is a Feminist (I mean feminism is another whole discussion altogether) and most importantly a student taking his masters in Gender and Development studies. Simon and I like to refer to ourselves as Gender scholars although we aren’t sure after how much accumulation of knowledge in a particular subject you can confidently say that.

Miss Gender, or is it Misdirecting Gender.

Gender is for everyone, it does not castigate nor discriminate.

It talks for the voiceless, a beacon of hope for the hopeless.

But why then, do ‘they’ use it to create a divide among us?

Why ever can someone use something so noble to disdain?

And why would we allow her to do that, in full glare of our screens.

Have we hit a new low from divisive tribal politics to a gendered one.

She looted and plundered and when it came to accountability, used it to claim the title of victim, under the banner that it is an attack against women.

The fight for Equality takes steps backward because of such actions.

What was most riling though, was the ‘support’ she had from women in her circle.

This is to mean that they are powerful high placed women who despite being female, perpetuate a culture of patriarchal impunity.

Yes, that is what it is, they control, silence, loot and do nothing to help alleviate the status of other marginalized groups in our society.

They perpetuate the discriminative status quo that thrives on the backs of the burdened marginalized populace with utter impunity.

But what does this act do, other than being a stab in the foot for the fight for marginalized groups having seats at the table.

The law is the great equalizer and none is or ever should be above it whether man or woman.

A corrupt female public official and a corrupt male public official are one and the same, a cancer that should be chopped off.

What made it worse is a male dominated senate sanitized her for all that she has done…. it tells much about the side of the team this player plays for.
